Job Description

The primary function of the Chief Engineer for the Southeast Division is to manage the day to day activities and growth of the of the engineering team while coordinating product design, detailing and the schedules for the projects going through the division. This will be done by working effectively with the VP of Systems, Project Managers, Production Manager, customers, suppliers and internal and external Superior Team members.

  • Develop a successful engineering team through leadership and coaching
  • All structures, conveyors and systems are designed according to customer specifications, proper engineering practices, applicable design codes & standards, and economic & manufacturability parameters
  • Engineering and design information for all projects is properly developed, documented, and maintained
  • Thorough understanding of:
    • Drafting standards, dimensioning, and tolerances
    • Mechanical power relationships such as horse power, torque, speed, ratios
    • Conveyor design and applications
    • Shaft, bearing, and power transmission design and analysis
    • Structural engineering and strength of materials
    • ASD steel design code and UBC code
    • CEMA specifications and standards
  • AISC standards
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to excel as a team leader
  • Contribute ideas for new designs or improving existing designs
  • Design systems that are functional, easily manufactured, and meet customer expectations 
  • Perform concept, design, and analysis stages of new product development
  • Use Autocad, SDS2 manufacturing software, and Windows-based programs efficiently
  • Serve as the leader and team manager for all design projects
  • Evaluate and implement design changes on structures and conveyors
  • Establish design guidelines and standards for structures, conveyors and systems
  • Maintain design consistency throughout the structures, conveyors and systems
  • Oversee maintenance of drawings, bills of material, and design checklists
  • Assist sales and estimators on projects that require technical input
  • Assist technical publishing on manuals
  • Supervise engineers, designers, and drafters within the Southeast Division team
  • Perform associate evaluations and all other personnel management tasks
  • Organize cost reduction efforts 
  • Assist customer service on technical issues related to structures, conveyors and systems
  • Travel required based on business needs 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural engineering or a closely related field of study
  • Demonstrate 5 years of engineer management experience
  • Demonstrate prior experience in bulk material handling, preferably in the mining industry
